Brief
Cross-laminated timber is warm and beautiful, but bare timber rooms are loud and timber floors carry footsteps. The architects wanted the structure exposed wherever they could.

Approach
We joined at concept stage, so the ceiling absorption could be built into the timber panels instead of hung beneath them. Floor build-ups were tested for footstep noise before any were specified. Teachers sat in on listening sessions and heard a full class at work in the proposed room.

Outcome
Every classroom is predicted to meet its reverberation target with timber visible on most surfaces. The school opens in autumn 2027.
