P02NOTES
01
Brief
Empty, the chapel rings for almost four seconds. Beautiful for a choir, hopeless for a string quartet. The foundation needed a room that could suit both, inside walls that can’t be drilled.
02
Approach
Everything we add stands on its own: timber reflectors above the stage, heavy curtains that drop from a light steel frame, a raised floor that hides the cabling. We held listening sessions with the resident ensemble so the musicians chose the settings themselves.
03
Outcome
The scheme has two settings, one for voices and one for strings, and switching between them takes about ten minutes. Construction is planned for next year.
