A stone-clad station hall where every announcement arrived three times. We tuned the room and the loudspeakers together until it arrived once.

P03NOTES
01

Brief

Passengers couldn’t make out platform changes, and the voice alarm system had failed its intelligibility test. New loudspeakers on their own had already been tried.

02

Approach

We modelled the hall and the sound system together and tried different loudspeaker positions and angles in the model. Absorption went into the roof coffers, out of sight from the floor. The existing line arrays were rehung lower and aimed away from the stone.

03

Outcome

Announcements are now clear along the full length of the concourse, and the voice alarm system passes comfortably above the 0.50 STI it needs.
